The Central Market is one of the greatest gastronomic exponents of Santiago.

It was inaugurated in 1872 in the place where the Abastos Square used to be, a place created by Bernardo O’Higgins for the center’s commerce.

Its design was in charge of Manuel Aldunate and its construction by Fermín Vivaceta, with a cast structure in Glasgow, Scotland. It was declared a National Monument in 1984.

The Mercado Central de Santiago is a heritage site that converges the largest number of stores in the country, offering: seafood, fruit, yerberia, fish, restaurant, butcher, botillería, call center, delicatessen, bakery, sale of empanadas, pharmacy, cheese factory , jewelry and even tour guide. All these services are available to the visiting public, both national and foreign, every day of the year.
