Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago

Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago

Nearest Turistik bus stop: Bus Stop 6: Plaza de Armas

This church is one of the main symbols of Catholicism present in Chile, inherited from the Spanish conquerors in the sixteenth century. It was built and rebuilt in the heart of the capital, the Plaza de Armas, between 1544 and 1748. In 1899, Archbishop Mariano Casanova, ordered its transformation into a Cathedral, where various remodels and decorations took away its primitive colonial style , giving it a neo-Renaissance look that characterizes it today.
