This French neoclassical building is located in the middle of the civic district that surrounds the Government Palace. It was built in the first instance to house the “Diario Ilustrado”, but then it was acquired by the State during the Carlos Ibáñez del Campo government.

It highlights its marble staircase and various windows alluding to the economic life of the country. It was declared a National Monument in 1976.

It has resisted without major problems the earthquakes that the Region has experienced and today it is projected as one of the favorite places for tourists and citizens who want to know a bit of history through its walls.

The doors of the Metropolitan Intendency are open to visitors on National Heritage days. They have guided tours to understand more about the history of this historic building.

If you want to admire it on the outside. You just have to get off at our stop 6 Hop On Hop Off.
