The creation of the Library as an institution was the architects of the Independence of Chile, proclaiming its foundation on August 19, 1813. Since 1925 is located in the current headquarters built in French neoclassical style and inside is decorated with murals of painters Chileans like Arturo Gordon and Alfredo Heisby.

The library houses more than 3 million pieces, becoming one of the most important in Latin America. It was declared National Monuments in 1976.

Monday to Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
